Sydney-based obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Andrew Pesce has been elected to a 12-month term as the new Federal President of the Australian Medical Association and replaces Dr Rosanna Capolingua, who held the position for two years.
Dr Pesce works in private practice and the public hospital system. He is Clinical Director of Women’s Health at Sydney West Area Health Service and Chair of the Westmead Hospital Medical Staff Council.
Elected at the AMA’s recent National conference in Melbourne, Dr Pesce is also President of the National Association of Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and has served on the AMA’s Federal Council and Executive.
Other elections at the conference include Queensland General Practitioner Dr Steven Hambleton as Vice President; Victorian Physician Dr Roderick McRae as Chair of Council; and West Australian Pathologist Dr Peter Garcia-Webb as Treasurer.
