Survey tracks director involvement in third sector
Tue, 16 March 2010
An Australian Institute of Company Directors study has shown that a large number of Australian directors are involved in not-for-profit organisations, with 58 per cent of respondents stating an involvement in the sector.
The study was undertaken to gain further insights into the contribution directors make to the economy and society through their engagement with the not-for-profit (NFP) sector.
The majority of NFP directors surveyed (79 per cent) are non-executives directors. The median non-executive director devotes between 6 and 20 hours per month, or up to 6 weeks per year.
Almost half of the directors surveyed said that a personal invitation from the chairman of the organisations had led to their involvement as a director.
